About Spain

Spain is a colourful country widely known for it's Flamenco music and dance, tapas bars and festivals, fantastic beaches and lots of sunshine.

Spain has so much to offer and has been, for thousands of years, one of the cultural centres of Europe.

Spain is located at the Iberian Península in the southwest of Europe. Spain occupies approximately 80% of the Peninsula (the remaining 20% are occupied by Portugal). Northern Spain borders on France and Andorra, with the Pyrenees as a natural frontier.

Spain incorporates the following popular holiday destination areas:-

• The Spanish Costas, situated on the Mediterranean coast.
• The Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza) in the Mediterranean Sea.
• The Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean close to the Moroccian coast.

Spain is the 3^rd largest country in Europe and the 5^th largest in population.

Most of Spain is hot and sunny in summer but there are differences in temperature during winter depending on the climatic region. There are three regions: the north and northwest, the central region and the Mediterranean coast including the Balearic Islands.
